Start to Finish

Start to Finish in North Somerset

The project enables joined-up work with individuals who have already been through the Criminal Justice System, and who have a range of complex needs. These complex needs are likely to require multiple interventions from a range of agencies; Start to Finish aims to reduce re-offending and improve opportunities through tailored support.

Individual complex needs could include:

  • Offending
  • Domestic abuse
  • Homelessness or in vulnerable accommodation
  • Mental or physical health issues
  • Substance misuse
  • Family breakdown
  • Finance/benefit/debt issues
  • Education/training/employment issues

Each individual will be allocated a Start to Finish Worker who will complete an assessment, identifying their needs, develop a plan and work with the individual through interventions to address needs on a 1 to 1 basis, enabling, supporting, advocating and coaching them to:

  • access with appropriate accommodation
  • access and engage with health and wellbeing support
  • access and substance misuse support
  • reconnecting or improving relationships with family and friends
  • access support in relation to finance, benefits and debt issues
  • explore opportunities around education, training and employment

Start to Finish workers will identify agencies already involved and engage in joint working, planning and solution-focussed interventions with the individual, acting as a coordinator to include the individual, seek continuity and ensure clarity as to each other’s responsibilities in relation to the plan.

The Start to Finish Project is an initiative funded by various partner agencies:

  • Start to Finish Worker (Youth) funded by North Somerset VRP
  • Start to Finish Worker (Adults) funded by Adult Social Care
  • Start to Finish Worker (Substance Misuse) funded by Public Health
  • Start to Finish Worker (Domestic Abuse) funded by VAWG
