2018 assessment
The latest assessment, conducted on 8 March 2018 found that the public space surveillance system operated by us is fit for purpose and complies with current legislation.
The assessments make sure that the original reasons for introducing the cameras on our streets are still valid.
During 2017, CCTV was used in 5,648 incidents and involved in 413 arrests throughout North Somerset. CCTV assisted the coastguard on five occasions and helped find 316 missing persons. It was involved in 1,630 occasions where police attended incidents and supported the Weston-super-Mare town centre wardens on 263 occasions. We did not receive any complaints relating to the CCTV service during 2017.
CCTV has been audited by the National Security Inspectorate and has been awarded a ‘Certificate of Compliance’ by the Surveillance Camera Commissioner.
