If you think a friend or family member is experiencing domestic abuse, there are things you can do to help them. People often feel awkward about getting involved in other’s arguments and don’t want people to think they are taking sides. Unfortunately, if those closest to them don’t react, many abusers and victims will take it to mean that the behaviour is acceptable.
Our Domestic Abuse Friends and Family Guide lists some of the signs of domestic abuse and gives some ideas of what you can say and how you can help.
If you would like some advice on how to help you can call the North Somerset DAFFS line on 0800 694 9999 9am-5pm for local advice, the women’s domestic abuse helpline on 0808 2000 247 or the MALE helpline on 0808 801 0327
If you want to pass your information on so that agencies can help, you can contact Crimestoppers in total confidence on 0800 555 111.
