Here you can find all the activities taking place across North Somerset as part of National Hate Crime Awareness week.

Day of Action - Wednesday 13th October

Partners will be hosting a Hate Crime Awareness roadshow on the MAVISbus in Weston-Super-Mare town centre in the morning and Morrison’s car park in the afternoon.

Great Western Railway and the British Transport Police will have a stand at Weston Rail Station to engaging with passengers, raising awareness of how to report hate crime on the rail network.

Community Response will also be running a stand in the lobby of Weston College, engaging with students around Hate Crime – What it is, The impact it can have and where you can get support if you are a victim.

Displays in North Somerset Libraries

All North Somerset libraries will be taking part in National Hate Crime Awareness week, promoting Equality and Diversity and raising awareness of hate crime through displays and information points in their libraries.

Visual displays will be showcased at Weston, Portishead, Nailsea and Clevedon libraries. The smaller local libraries will also be taking part in awareness raising activities.

Businesses Involvement

Citizens Advice North Somerset will be taking over an empty shop window in the Sovereign Centre, to showcase their National Hate Crime Awareness Week display.

We will be delivering resource packs to businesses to ensure that businesses are equipped if somebody enters wanting help.

These resource packs will include leaflets and posters to promote the week and signpost to local advice and support for hate crime.

Weston & Worle Neighbourhood Policing Facebook Live Event – Thursday 14th September

The Weston & Worle Neighbourhood Policing Team will be hosting a Facebook Live Event on Thursday 14 September at 6pm, talking about Hate Crime and the support available. Tune in to find out more!

Communications Campaign

There will be widespread distribution of Hate Crime awareness resources across North Somerset. If you would like to display these resources, you can download them on our hate crime resources page.

Hate Crime messages will also be displayed on electronic signage at bus stops across North Somerset to encourage victims and witnesses to report hate crime.
