This year we commemorate 2 special events.
100 years ago the First World War ended, and a new world began. The example and experience of those who lived through it shaped the world we live in today. In 2018 we say Thank You to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world. This will be marked by music, song, bands and re-enactments telling the stories of local Families affected by the “war to end all wars”.
Saturday morning, all around Town from the Railway Station to the High Street and Weston Town Square. We will be bring history to life, tableaux will be arranged at various locations, please feel free to stop and chat or ask them their stories. Weston Brass will provide appropriate music and in the Town Square there will be a “call to arms” Our authentic WW1 recruiting team will be there to greet the crowds and sign you up. Come and join in and be part of the commemorations, come along, bring the family, dress up in your period costume and join in our opening parade.
Also being commemorated is the Centenary of the formation of the Royal Air Force. On 1 April 2018, the Royal Air Force celebrated its 100th birthday. To mark this occasion, we want to reflect on some of its history and achievements. We also want to celebrate the work the RAF is currently doing and look forward to the next 100 years. To commemorate this important birthday, We are very pleased to announce our special VIP Guest taking the final salute on Sunday, will be Air Marshal Julian Young RAF The RAF centenary itself will be marked by special events, activities and other initiatives at local, regional and national levels running from April to the end of November 2018. Watch out for one near you.
Armed Forces Days is a celebration of our Service men and women, and the immeasurable contribution they make to our lives and to the reputation of our Country. Through centuries of Service to the Nation, the members of our Armed Forces have established a record unequalled in the world. They work selflessly with honour and distinction, in the most challenging circumstances imaginable. This day also recognizes the wider family: the Veterans, young and old; many volunteers who support the Cadet Forces so tirelessly; and – of paramount importance and sometimes forgotten – the Families and friends whose care and support enables such excellence.
